Apprentices in this field should carry out completely and efficiently all construction related to bricklaying and plastering from working drawings.

They must be competent and knowledgeable in all safety aspects of the trade, materials, use of tools and mechanical plants, setting out and measuring of foundations, walls, and wall openings, laying of bricks, and ceilings and repairs and alters existing brickwork, and other constructions;

Erect and dismantle scaffolds, construct drainage systems, and have knowledge on the types of pipes and special fittings of drainage systems;

Apply knowledge on tempering to trenches, to various types of soils and make temporary supports during demolishing work by using dead shore, racking shores, flying shores;

Must have good command of basic communication regarding the trade, the functional requirements and design factors of various buildings, drainage systems and site work.
